5 finished and 1 in progress

Here are the images that I said I'd post, Jennie, since you weren't able to critique them with me last week. I meant to post them a few days ago, sorry!

The five small ones feel complete to me right now, but the large piece is still very much in progress... the final image below is how I showed it on last Saturday.

  2. Thanks, Jasmine! I'm really excited about the ways in which the one you're referring to is sculptural and in dialogue with the ideas of 'access' and 'framing'.

  3. Hi Dawn,
I'm curious about where things are with your work now. Are you still working toward the large installation?
I wonder if you've googled 'word sculpture' or 'language sculpture' 'language art', 'word art'...aside from the aritsts you're already interested in, I think you'll find a range of others.
After we last talked about your work - on the way to the train station, I gained a better understanding of the issues you're working with and have one suggestion. You're focusing on text and have questions about its ability to do what it says it does. What I don't see you considering, which seems important, is the dynamic created in that 'between' space between people. The dilemma it seems is in not in the text itself, but in the problems it causes in that space between us. I wonder if there is a way to approach your work from the perspective of relationships.
    I'm hoping that makes sense...
Let me know if there are any special needs you have for April 14th...
    Best,
    Jennie

  4. I love how you've started to cut into the encaustics! Very cool! It would be intersting to cut even down into the wood..how would that play with the other relationships you're trying to create?
